Saturday Long Run (P2P for 18-22 milers from Big Lots up north, 3-16 O/B from HQ Bridle Path Jefferson)

CARPOOL ALERT: It’s point to point for 18-22 milers, so carpooling will be necessary to get up to the Big Lots start. Carpools will meet up and leave HQ at 5:15-5:30am to get up north for a 5:45am start.

WATER ALERT

We need your cooperation with water stops. It is very hot and in order for enough water to be available for everyone, please do NOT dump drinking water over your head or fill handheld bottles with water at the water stops. Also, these stops are for Gazelles only, so if you do see non-Gazelles at the stops, please (kindly) encourage them to move on.

5:45am departure this week for long runs 3-16 miles from HQ. Be mindful of your post-run routine so you don’t block residents at HQ area after your run.

Water stations are normal this week. You may want to carry your own water still, if you are starting way before or after the 5:45 start window that water is usually out there, or if you are ad libbing on route variations.

THE ROUTES

3 Miles: Check 4 mile map below. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. Turn around at LA Blvd, and return LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

4 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Turn around at Expo, and return LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

5 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to W. 12th (road at the top of the O Henry track). You’ll turn around at W. 12th (or when your watch beeps 2.5 miles). Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

7 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. You’ll turn around at Windsor Road (or when your watch beeps 3.5 miles). Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Sharon back down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

8 Miles: Your map is here.  Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and you’ll turn around about where the park ends on your right (a street merges into Marganita about there). Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

10 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Jefferson up to 34th St water stop. Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

12 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Jefferson up to 35th. Cross 35th on Jefferson up to Bull Creek. Left on Bull Creek. Bull Creek up to 45th.  (Your watch will beep 6 miles around here). Turn around here, and retrace your steps home. Bull Creek down and around to Jefferson (stop light). RIGHT on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

Left on Bull Creek. Bull Creek up to Hancock. LEFT on Hancock over to W. Frances Place, the last street before the Mopac bridge ahead of you. (Your watch will beep 7 miles around here). Turn around here, and retrace your steps home. Hancock back to Bull Creek. Right on Bull Creek down and around to Jefferson (stop light). RIGHT on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

16 Miles (Out and Back): Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Jefferson up to 35th. Cross 35th on Jefferson up to Bull Creek. Left on Bull Creek. Bull Creek up to Hancock. LEFT on Hancock up and over Mopac, to Balcones. Right on Balcones, and across 2222/Northland to water stop at the storage facility on the east side of Balcones (about ½ mile). Turn around at the water stop, and retrace your steps home. Balcones down to Hancock. Left on Hancock to Bull Creek. Right on Bull Creek down and around to Jefferson (stop light). RIGHT on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

18 Miles: Your map is here. Start up at Big Lots parking lot at Spicewood Springs @ 183. Jollyville down to Great Hills Trail. Left on Great Hills over to Stonelake. RIGHT on Stonelake down to Capital of Texas Highway. Right on Cap Texas Hwy, carefully crossing over Mopac on the walkway to access road, left over to church, right up to Jollyville again. Left on Jollyville to Mesa. Right on Mesa down to Far West. Left on Far West down to Balcones (Mopac access road). Right on Balcones. Balcones down, across 2222/Northland, to Hancock. Left on Hancock, to Bull Creek. Bull Creek down past Jackson on down to Jefferson (Stoplight intersection). Right on Jefferson, across 35th to water stop. Jefferson down to Northwood Road. Right on Northwood Road under Mopac to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, and left on Expo to Enfield. Right on Enfield out to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans, circling under Cesar Chavez on bike path back to HQ. Feel free to end the running day when your watch says “18,” or do the remaining quarter mile to HQ.

Cross to southside trail, to First St. bridge, up and over to northside trail, and back to HQ. NOTE: You could do a two mile loop at the top of the course if you wish to avoid trail running at the end. One such option is shown here. Jollyville down to Q Ranch Road, the first street after the post office. Then, Q to Woodcrest Drive, the first right hand turn. Woodcrest to a name change to Chelsea Moor, and then hang a right veer at Charing Cross Road, to a T intersection at Barrington Way, and Right back to Jollyville. From there, hang with your pals.

22 Miles: You will follow the 20 mile route above, with the addition of the extra loop at the top of the course mentioned in that description, and listed here again.

RACE SPECIFIC WORKOUTS

HERE ARE SUGGESTED LONG RUN WORKOUTS FOR RACES THAT ARE IN THE FUTURE. IF YOU AREN’T RACING ANY TIME SOON, KEEP YOUR FITNESS BY ALTERNATING A LONGER LONG RUN AND A RECOVERY LONG RUN ON SUCCESSIVE WEEKENDS, DEPENDING ON YOUR CURRENT TRAINING LEVELS. (Ex: Alternate a 10-12 mile run with an 8-10 mile run).

·      Sept 8th (Sundance to Spearfish, Last Chance): Taper Time. 14-18 miles, with last 8-10 @ MGP. Start nice and relaxed, and finish last 8-10 miles at honest MGP.

·      Sept 15th (Sydney, AUS): 20-22 miles. The last loooonnnggg run. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 22 mile max.

·      Sept 22nd (Buenos Aires, ARG): 12-14 miles recovery long run. Cut back from last week.

·      Sept 29th (Berlin): 18-20 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 20 mile max.

·      Oct 5th-6th (St. George, Lisbon): 12-14 miles recovery long run. Cut back from last week.

·      Oct 13th (Chicago): 16-20 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 20 mile max.

·      Oct 20th (Columbus, Toronto): 12-14 miles recovery long run. Cut back from last week.

·      Nov 3rd (New York, Las Vegas): 10-14 miles recovery long run. Cut back from last week.

·      Nov 24th (Phillie): 10-14 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 14 mile max.

·      Dec 8th (CIM):  10-14 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 14 mile max.

4.    (Former) Randall’s at Braker (east side of street just before Braker)

5.    Anderson High School on Mesa near Steck. On east side of street.

6.    Balcones at storage facility on east side of street, about a half mile north of 2222.
