Water stations are normal this week. You may want to carry your own water still, if you are starting way before or after the 5:45 start window that water is usually out there, or if you are ad libbing on route variations.

OUT AND BACK ROUTES

4 Miles: Your map is here. Start at GZLs HQ. Electric Avenue over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 26th. Turn around at W. 26th, and retrace your steps home. Rio Grande back down to MLK, then a short right and then left down West Avenue, back to Electric Avenue and to HQ. Wave to your friends as you pass each other.

6 Miles: Your map is here. Start at GZLs HQ. Electric Avenue over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 29th. Right on W 29th, crossing Guadalupe, and then left onto Fruth Street at the park on your left. After you turn up Fruth, you will take the first right hand street alongside Hemphill Park, which is called West Drive at first. When it crosses W. 30th, it seems to change names to Hemphill Park. Follow Hemphill Park alongside the park up to W. 34th. Right on W. 34th over to Home Lane, which is the first street on your left after you turn onto W. 34th. Turn around at Home Lane, and retrace your steps back home. Return W. 34th over to Hemphill Park. Left on Hemphill Park, down to Fruth. Short left on Fruth down to W. 29th. Right on 29th up to Rio Grande. Left on Rio Grande down to MLK, then a short right and then left down West Avenue, back to Electric Avenue and to HQ. Wave to your friends as you pass each other.

8 Miles: Your map is here. Start at GZLs HQ. Electric Avenue over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 29th. Right on W 29th, crossing Guadalupe, and then left onto Fruth Street at the park on your left. After you turn up Fruth, you will take the first right hand street alongside Hemphill Park, which is called West Drive at first. When it crosses W. 30th, it seems to change names to Hemphill Park. Follow Hemphill Park alongside the park up to W. 34th. Right on W. 34th over to Speedway, then take a quick left up Speedway, and then a snappy right back onto E. 34th. Continue E. 34th over to Duval. Right on Duval down to merge with San Jacinto, and on to Dean Keeton. Turn around at Dean Keeton, and retrace your steps back home. San Jacinto back up right onto Duval, up to E. 34th. Left on E. 34th over to Speedway, and a short left on Speedway down to W. 34th. Right on W. 34th over to Hemphill Park. Left on Hemphill Park, down to Fruth. Short left on Fruth down to W. 29th. Right on 29th up to Rio Grande. Left on Rio Grande down to MLK, then a short right and then left down West Avenue, back to Electric Avenue and to HQ. Wave to your friends as you pass each other.

9.75 Miles: Your map is here. Start at GZLs HQ. Electric Avenue over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 29th. Right on W 29th, crossing Guadalupe, and then left onto Fruth Street at the park on your left. Lafayette back to Dean Keeton, over to UT, right on San Jacinto, veer right onto Duval, up to E. 34th. Left on E. 34th over to Speedway, and a short left on Speedway down to W. 34th. Right on W. 34th over to Hemphill Park. Left on Hemphill Park, down to Fruth. Short left on Fruth down to W. 29th. Right on 29th up to Rio Grande. Left on Rio Grande down to MLK, then a short right and then left down West Avenue, back to Electric Avenue and to HQ. Wave to your friends as you pass each other.

Join Northside trail there, and head back to HQ on northside trail.

14.5 Miles: Your map is here. NOTE: This route is designed so that you can hang with your 16  mile pals for the longest amount of time. If you do not have such pals Saturday, then you can slice down to 14 by making a small move that I will note below. Start at GZLs HQ. Electric Avenue over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 29th. Right on W 29th, crossing Guadalupe, and then left onto Fruth Street at the park on your left. After you turn up Fruth, you will take the first right hand street alongside Hemphill Park, which is called West Drive at first. When it crosses W. 30th, it seems to change names to Hemphill Park. Follow Hemphill Park alongside the park up to W. 34th. Right on W. 34th over to Speedway, then take a LEFT on Speedway up to 45th. RIGHT on 45th over to Red River. RIGHT on Red River down to W. 41st (at the golf course). RIGHT on W. 41st over to Duval. LEFT on Duval down to merge with San Jacinto, and on to Dean Keeton. Left on E. 12th over to Pleasant Valley Road. Right on Pleasant Valley down to Webberville Road. [NOTE: If you are not running with 16 milers, Continue on Pleasant Valley to Lyons Road. Take a LEFT on Lyons over to Tillery. This is where you rejoin the route, taking a RIGHT on Tillery down to Cesar Chavez as noted below] LEFT on Webberville up to Govalle Ave. RIGHT on Govalle over to Tillery St. RIGHT on Tillery down all the way to Cesar Chavez. RIGHT on Cesar Chavez to Pleasant Valley Road. LEFT on Pleasant Valley down to Canterbury St, the street just north of Longhorn Dam, and cross Pleasant Valley to Canterbury. Join Northside trail there, and head back to HQ on northside trail.

16 Miles: Your map is here. NOTE: You will hang with your 14 mile pals until you exit the trail at Rainey Street. Then you will survey the finishing miles of the marathon course as a 16 mile tribe. Start at GZLs HQ. Electric Avenue over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 29th. Right on W 29th, crossing Guadalupe, and then left onto Fruth Street at the park on your left. After you turn up Fruth, you will take the first right hand street alongside Hemphill Park, which is called West Drive at first. When it crosses W. 30th, it seems to change names to Hemphill Park. Follow Hemphill Park alongside the park up to W. 34th. Right on W. 34th over to Speedway, then take a LEFT on Speedway up to 45th. RIGHT on 45th over to Red River. RIGHT on Red River down to W. 41st (at the golf course). RIGHT on W. 41st over to Duval. LEFT on Duval down to merge with San Jacinto, and on to Dean Keeton. Left on Dean Keeton over and up to and under/over I-35. On East side of I-35, take a right on Lafayette, which changes names to Chicon in a block or so, and take Chicon down to E. 12th Street. Left on E. 12th over to Pleasant Valley Road. Right on Pleasant Valley down to Webberville Road. LEFT on Webberville up to Govalle Ave. RIGHT on Govalle over to Tillery St. RIGHT on Tillery down all the way to Cesar Chavez. RIGHT on Cesar Chavez to Pleasant Valley Road. LEFT on Pleasant Valley down to Canterbury St, the street just north of Longhorn Dam, and cross Pleasant Valley to Canterbury. Join Northside trail there, and head back to HQ on northside trail. At the metal bathroom sculpture on the trail near Milago Condos, you will exit the trail to Rainey Street. This is where you will diverge from your 14 mile pals. You will go up Rainey Street to a T intersection, which is Driskill Street. Take a LEFT on Driskill over to Red River. RIGHT on Red River up up to 11th Street. LEFT on 11th up to the Capitol, and then you take a LEFT down Congress. That hill on 11th is in your racecourse. Ugh. LEFT on Congress down to 3rd Street. RIGHT on 3rd over to Trader Joe’s, and around to Electric Avenue and HQ.

18 Miles: Your map is here.. Start at GZLs HQ. Electric Avenue over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 29th. Right on W 29th, crossing Guadalupe, and then left onto Fruth Street at the park on your left. After you turn up Fruth, you will take the first right hand street alongside Hemphill Park, which is called West Drive at first. When it crosses W. 30th, it seems to change names to Hemphill Park. LEFT on Pleasant Valley down to Canterbury St, the street just north of Longhorn Dam, and cross Pleasant Valley to Canterbury. Join Northside trail there, and head back to HQ on northside trail. Exit northside trail at I-35 ramp, and cross up and over LB Lake on I-35 pedestrian walkway to southside trail. Take southside trail out to Mopac, then to northside, Veterans up to bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez back to HQ.

20 Miles: Your map is here. Our 20 and 22 milers start out differently from the rest of the herd, to get in their bonus miles. They start from HQ out on the bike path along Cesar Chavez, loop under Cesar Chavez, go around Veterans at Austin High School, out to LABlvd. LA Blvd to Exposition. Right on Expo up to Enfield. Right on Enfield under Mopac and then take the right hand veer onto Hartford Road. Left on Palma Plaza, and then take the right hand fork to W. 14th. W. 14th to W. Lynn. Right on W. Lynn for a short zigzag back left onto W. 13th. 13th to Blanco/Windsor, and take a Right there down to 12th St. Left on 12th Street over to West Avenue. Left on West Ave up to W. MLK. Right on MLK to first left street, which is Rio Grande. Left up Rio Grande to W. 29th. Right on W 29th, crossing Guadalupe, and then left onto Fruth Street at the park on your left. After you turn up Fruth, you will take the first right hand street alongside Hemphill Park, which is called West Drive at first. When it crosses W. 30th, it seems to change names to Hemphill Park. Follow Hemphill Park alongside the park up to W. 34th. Right on W. 34th over to Speedway, then take a LEFT on Speedway up to 45th. RIGHT on 45th over to Red River. RIGHT on Red River down to W. 41st (at the golf course). RIGHT on W. 41st over to Duval. LEFT on Duval down to merge with San Jacinto, and on to Dean Keeton. Left on Dean Keeton over and up to and under/over I-35. On East side of I-35, take a right on Lafayette, which changes names to Chicon in a block or so, and take Chicon down to E. 12th Street. Left on E. 12th over to Pleasant Valley Road. Right on Pleasant Valley down to Webberville Road. LEFT on Webberville up to Govalle Ave. RIGHT on Govalle over to Tillery St. RIGHT on Tillery down all the way to Cesar Chavez. RIGHT on Cesar Chavez to Pleasant Valley Road. LEFT on Pleasant Valley down to Canterbury St, the street just north of Longhorn Dam, and cross Pleasant Valley to Canterbury. Stay on Canterbury to Pedernales St. and take a LEFT down Pedernales. Join Northside trail there, on the new part that goes around the old Holly Power plant. Head back to HQ on northside trail. At the metal bathroom sculpture on the trail near Milago Condos, you will exit the trail to Rainey Street. This is where you will diverge from your 14 mile pals. You will go up Rainey Street to a T intersection, which is Driskill Street. Take a LEFT on Driskill over to Red River. RIGHT on Red River up up to 11th Street. LEFT on 11th up to the Capitol, and then you take a LEFT down Congress. That hill on 11th is in your racecourse. Ugh. LEFT on Congress down to 3rd Street. RIGHT on 3rd over to Trader Joe’s, and around to Electric Avenue and HQ.Take the slightly longer path around the dog park at HQ to get up to about 19.6 miles. You completists know what to do to get up to 20.0.

 

22 Miles: For 22, our lone Across the Years runner can add their favorite extra 2 miles to the 20 mile map above.

RACE SPECIFIC WORKOUTS

·      Nov 24th (Phillie): Run smart, run with joy, take a picture with the Rocky statue.

·      Dec 1st (Valencia): Taper Time. 8-12 miles, with last 4 @ MGP. Start nice and relaxed, and finish last 4 miles at honest MGP.

·      Dec 8th (CIM, BCS):  Taper Time. 12-16 miles, with last 6 @ MGP. Start nice and relaxed, and finish last 6 miles at honest MGP.

·      Dec 31st (Across The Years): 20-22 miles. The last looonnggg run. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 22 mile max.

·      Jan 19th, 2025 (Houston): 16-20 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 20 mile max.

·      Feb 8th, 2025 (Mesa): 10-14 mile recovery long run. Back off from last week.

·      Feb 16th, 2025 (Austin): 12-16 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 16 mile max.

·      March 2nd, 2025 (Tokyo): 10-14 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 14 mile max.

1. Enfield @ Exposition (SW corner by baseball park sign)

2. Hemphill Park @ W. 33rd (on park side of Hemphill Park)
3. UT campus at corner of San Jacinto and Dean Keeton
4. Pleasant Valley Rd. @ NY Drive (NY Drive is on your left, but there is a parking lot and driveway on your RIGHT, which is where the water stop will be)
5. Pedernales at old Holly power plant site, at old trail
6. Trail fountains along Northside trails
