START TIMES

Choose your own time between 5:30-6:30am. We are not meeting as a group inside beforehand so plan your bathroom strategy accordingly. GZLs HQ will remain closed before and after the runs, but The Loop may be able to accommodate you immediately post-run and after 10:00am. Be mindful of your post-run routine so you don’t block residents at HQ area after your run.

THE MAP

Water stations are normal this week. Hand sanitizer will be affixed to the water barrels to do a quick clean of your water button pushing hands. Feel free to refill your own water bottles as needed. You may want to carry your own water still, depending on any of your own ad libbing on route variations.

THE ROUTES

We are touring the St. Edward’s Hilly loop course. Depending on the length of your run, you will either finish via S. 5th back to Auditorium Shores and HQ, or via some combo of routes ending up on Barton Hills Drive back to trail or HQ.

5 Miles: I recommend a Congress to Mopac trail loop. But, you could take the 7 mile map below, and turn around when your watch sez 2.5 miles, approximately at Woodland/East Annie St., and retrace your steps back to HQ.

7 Miles: Your map is here. This is an out and back trip, for an option. GZLs HQ across Pfluger footbridge to southside trail towards I-35. Exit trail and boardwalk at trailhead behind new Ciderarcade (former Joe’s Crab Shack), up to Riverside. Cross at crosswalk to Alameda Drive on south side of Riverside. Alameda to first right hand turn, which is, I think, East Side Drive. If construction is still going on at park, blocking the road, take alley road left up to park road, where you will turn right over to East Side Drive. Left on East Side Drive in that case. If construction is complete, then follow East Side Drive as it takes a big left hand turn and continues up alongside greenbelt park on your left. East Side Drive to St. Edward’s campus, to name change to University Circle. Turn around at water stop at St. Edward’s, and retrace your steps back to HQ.

7.8 miles: Your map is here. GZLs HQ across Pfluger footbridge to southside trail towards I-35. Exit trail and boardwalk at trailhead behind new Ciderarcade (former Joe’s Crab Shack), up to Riverside. Cross at crosswalk to Alameda Drive on south side of Riverside. Alameda to first right hand turn, which is, I think, East Side Drive. If construction is still going on at park, blocking the road, take alley road left up to park road, where you will turn right over to East Side Drive. Left on East Side Drive in that case. If construction is complete, then follow East Side Drive as it takes a big left hand turn and continues up alongside greenbelt park on your left. East Side Drive into St. Edward’s campus, to name change to University Circle. At the top of the hill, take a left through the Theater parking lot over to Theater Pass, and take a right on Theater Pass to Woodward. Right on Woodward across S. Congress to name change to Lightsey. At S. First, take a short left then immediate right onto Cardinal. Cardinal to S. 5th Street. Right on S. 5th. S. 5th Barton Springs Road. LEFT on BS Road over to Pet store/Vet, and take a RIGHT on Lee Barton Drive (across from McDonalds). To Pfluger footbridge. Cross up and over LB Lake on footbridge to HQ.

Congress to name change to Lightsey. At S. First, take a short left then immediate right onto Cardinal. Cardinal to S. 5th Street. Right on S. 5th. S. 5th up to West Mary St. (Library branch at that corner). Left on W. Mary, crossing S. Lamar to Hether St. Hether to Bluebonnet. Right on Bluebonnet at Zilker Elementary, and follow it as it sweeps left (name change to Melridge Place), and hits Rabb Road. You diverge from your 10-12 mile brethren here, and take a RIGHT on Rabb/Azie Morton Drive down to Azie Morton Drive and take Azie Morton to Barton Springs Road. Carefully cross BS Road, and get on Southside trail.  Take trail back towards Lamar and Pfluger footbridge. Cross up and over LB Lake on footbridge to HQ.

Follow trail through park, under BS Road, and up to Southside trail.  Take trail back towards Lamar and Pfluger footbridge. Cross up and over LB Lake on footbridge to HQ.

Stay on Veterans, and skirt around the AHS track, under Cesar Chavez to north side of Cesar Chavez and the bike path. Bike path back to HQ.

RACE SPECIFIC WORKOUTS

HERE ARE SUGGESTED LONG RUN WORKOUTS FOR RACES THAT ARE IN THE FUTURE, AND MAY STILL BE SCHEDULED. IF YOUR RACE IS CANCELED, KEEP YOUR FITNESS BY ALTERNATING A LONGER LONG RUN AND A RECOVERY LONG RUN ON SUCCESSIVE WEEKENDS, DEPENDING ON YOUR CURRENT TRAINING LEVELS. (Ex: Alternate a 10-12 mile run with an 8-10 mile run).

November 8th (RFTW): 4-6 miles. Add a mile to your last longer long run, up to that 6 mile max.

December 6th (CIM): 10-14 mile recovery run. Back off from last week.

December 6th (San Antonio Half): 6-10 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 10 mile max.

December 13th (Decker Half): 5-8 mile recovery run. Back off from last week.

December 13th (BCS Marathon): 12-16 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 16 mile max.

January 17th, 2021 (3M Half Marathon and Houston Half Marathon): 5-8 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 8 mile max.

January 17th, 2021 (Houston Marathon): 9-12 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 12 mile max.

February 14th, 2021 (Austin Marathon): 7-10 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 10 mile max.
