Saturday Long Run: OB LAB Expo, and P2P for 18-20 milers from Big Lots at Spicewood Springs

CARPOOL ALERT: It’s point to point for 18-22 milers, so carpooling will be necessary to get up to the various starts. Carpools will meet up and leave HQ at 5:15-5:30am to get up north for a 5:45am start.

START TIMES

Start time is 5:45am from HQ for out and back route folks up to 16 miles. CARPOOL ALERT (PART 2): 18-22 Milers will be going point to point from up north, so meet 5:15-5:30 to carpool up to the top of the course.

Water stations are normal this week. You may want to carry your own water still, if you are starting way before or after the 5:45 start window that water is usually out there, or if you are ad libbing on route variations.

THE ROUTES

3.18 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. Turn around at LA Blvd, and return Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

4 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Turn around at Exposition, and return LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

5.3 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to Enfield. Turn around at Enfield, and return down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

6 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to Gilbert Street on your left (of course). Turn around at Gilbert, and return down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

7 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to McCullough (last of the church complex on your right, school for autism on your left). Turn around at McCullough, and return down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

8.2 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to Carlton (church on your left, last of the big white condo units on your right). Turn around at Carlton, and return down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

10 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Jackson. Left on Jackson up to merge with Bull Creek. Turn around at Bull Creek, and return Jackson down to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Exposition. Left down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

12 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Jackson. Left on Jackson up to merge with Bull Creek. Left on Bull Creek up to Hancock. Turn around at Hancock, and retrace your steps home. Return Bull Creek down to Jackson, veer right on Jackson down to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Exposition. Left down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

14 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Jackson. Left on Jackson up to merge with Bull Creek. Left on Bull Creek up to Hancock. Left on Hancock up and over Mopac bridge. Right on Balcones. Turn around at Randall’s Grocery on your right just past the fire station, and retrace your steps home. Return Balcones to Hancock over to Bull Creek down to Jackson, veer right on Jackson down to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Exposition. Left down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

16 Miles: Your map is here. Head to bike trail north side of Cesar Chavez and curl under Cesar Chavez, then around Austin High track to Mopac. Continue past the water stop up Veterans to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Exposition. Right on Expo up to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Jackson. Left on Jackson up to merge with Bull Creek. Left on Bull Creek up to Hancock. Left on Hancock up and over Mopac bridge. Right on Balcones. Cross 2222/Northland on Balcones and continue north to water stop on your right. Turn around when your watch beeps 8 miles, or at North Hills Drive, and retrace your steps home. Return Balcones to Hancock over to Bull Creek down to Jackson, veer right on Jackson down to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Exposition. Left down Exposition all the way to LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Veterans around Austin High track, under Cesar Chavez, and bike path back to HQ.

RIGHT on Stonelake down to Capital of Texas Highway. Right on Cap Texas Hwy, carefully crossing over Mopac on the walkway to access road, left over to church, right up to Jollyville again. Left on Jollyville to Mesa. Right on Mesa down to Far West. Left on Far West down to Balcones (Mopac access road). Right on Balcones. Balcones down, across 2222/Northland, to Hancock. Left on Hancock, to Bull Creek. Bull Creek down to Jackson, veer right on Jackson down to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Exposition. Left down Exposition to Enfield. Right on Enfield out to LA Blvd (Mozart’s). Left on LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Southside trail over to Pfluger footbridge and back to HQ.

22 Miles: Your map is here. Start up at Big Lots parking lot at Spicewood Springs @ 183. We will do a loop up north before joining the published 18 and 20 mile routes above. Jollyville down past the Post Office on our right, and we will take a right on Q Ranch Road. Take an immediate right off of Q Ranch onto Woodcrest Drive. Woodcrest will veer right and change names to Chelsea Moor. Chelsea Moor will merge into Charing Cross Road, and we will veer right on Charing Cross to Barrington Way. Right on Barrington Way back to Jollyville, and now we rejoin the other folks down to Great Hills Trail. Left on Great Hills over to Stonelake. RIGHT on Stonelake down to Capital of Texas Highway. Right on Cap Texas Hwy, carefully crossing over Mopac on the walkway to access road, left over to church, right up to Jollyville again. Left on Jollyville to Mesa. Right on Mesa down to Far West. Left on Far West down to Balcones (Mopac access road). Right on Balcones. Balcones down, across 2222/Northland, to Hancock. Left on Hancock, to Bull Creek. Bull Creek down to Jackson, veer right on Jackson down to 35th. Right on 35th up and over Mopac to Exposition. Left down Exposition to Enfield. Right on Enfield out to LA Blvd (Mozart’s). Left on LA Blvd back to Mopac, to Southside trail and a victory lap of Auditorium Shores before returning to Pfluger footbridge and to HQ.

RACE SPECIFIC WORKOUTS

·      April 6-7th, 2024 (Mt. Charleston, Paris): Taper madness week 2. 12-16 miles, with last 6 at honest MGP. Check with Coach for your MGP if you do not already have it in mind. Start easy, and then cruise home with MGP for last 6 miles.

·      April 15th, 2024 (Boston): Taper madness begins. 16-18 miles, with last 10-12 at honest MGP. Check with Coach for your MGP if you do not already have it in mind. Start easy, and then cruise home with MGP for last 10-12 miles.

·      April 21st, 2024 (London): 20-22 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 22 mile max.

·      April 28th, 2024 (Eugene, Big Sur): 12-14 mile recovery long run. Back off from last week.

·      June 22nd (Grandma’s): 10-12 mile recovery long run. Back off from last week.
