Saturday Long Run: Out and Back Expo Bridle Path Shoal Creek

Start time for regular Gazelles is 5:45am. If you start way before or after the 5:45am start time, note that you may be ahead of or out after the water team has done their work.

Water stations are normal this week. You may want to carry your own water still, if you are starting way before or after the 5:45 start window that water is usually out there, or if you are ad libbing on route variations.

THE ROUTES

3 Miles: Check 4 mile map below. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. Turn around at LA Blvd, and return LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

4 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Turn around at Expo, and return LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

5 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to W. 12th (road at the top of the O Henry track). You’ll turn around at W. 12th (or when your watch beeps 2.5 miles). Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

7 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. You’ll turn around at Windsor Road (or when your watch beeps 3.5 miles). Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Sharon back down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

8 Miles: Your map is here.  Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and you’ll turn around about where the park ends on your right (a street merges into Marganita about there). Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

10 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Jefferson up to 34th St water stop. Turn around there, and retrace your steps back to HQ. Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

12 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Take a right on 35th, and veer left to 38th, to Shoal Creek where you'll turn left. Take Shoal Creek up to the Texas School book building on your left (your watch will beep 6). Turn around there, and return down Shoal Creek all the way to 38th Street. Right on 38th up to Jefferson. Left on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

14 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Take a right on 35th, and veer left to 38th, to Shoal Creek where you'll turn left. Take Shoal Creek up to the water stop south of 2222/Northland (this gives you a 14.4 mile round trip. You certainly have the option to turn around when your watch beeps 7 miles at Shoalmont Drive on your right). Turn around at the water stop (or Shoalmont Drive), and return down Shoal Creek all the way to 38th Street. Right on 38th up to Jefferson. Left on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

16 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Take a right on 35th, and veer left to 38th, to Shoal Creek where you'll turn left. Take Shoal Creek up to White Rock where you'll turn left. Turn around when your watch beeps 8 miles (between the two Janey streets on your right. Return White Rock to Shoal Creek, and down Shoal Creek all the way to 38th Street. Right on 38th up to Jefferson. Left on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to Veterans around to and under Cesar Chavez, to bike path and back to HQ.

18 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Take a right on 35th, and veer left to 38th, to Shoal Creek where you'll turn left. Take Shoal Creek up to White Rock where you'll turn left. Turn right on Great Northern and up to pedestrian bridge over Great Northern. Turn around at that pedestrian overhead bridge, or when your watch says 9 miles. Return down Great Northern to White Rock, and down Shoal Creek all the way to 38th Street. Right on 38th up to Jefferson. Left on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez, back to HQ.

20 Miles: Your map is here. Take bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez over to dog pound loop under Cesar Chavez, to Veterans around AHS track, to Mopac and Veterans up to LA Blvd. LA Blvd over to Exposition.  Right on Expo up to Bridle Path. Right on Bridle Path and follow it around as it curves to the left where it becomes Sharon Lane. Where Sharon ends, turn left on Indian Trail, then take the first right on Dormarion Lane. Follow that to the multi-way intersection (Dormarion, Tower Drive, and Marganita Crescent) with Tarrytown park on your right and take right hand “Y” veer to Marganita Crescent. Loop around, and take a right on Bland Street, then right on Westover. Cross under Mopac then take a left on Jefferson. Take a right on 35th, and veer left to 38th, to Shoal Creek where you'll turn left. Take Shoal Creek up to White Rock where you'll turn left. Turn right on Great Northern and up to pedestrian bridge over Great Northern. Continue up Great Northern to Foster. Right on Foster to Shoal Creek. You will go north (LEFT) on Shoal Creek, across Anderson, and up to Lowe’s on your right (or when your watch beeps 10 miles). Turn around at Lowe’s, and retrace your steps home.  Shoal Creek down to Foster. Right on Foster to Great Northern, down Great Northern to White Rock, and down Shoal Creek all the way to 38th Street. Right on 38th up to Jefferson. Left on Jefferson down to Northwood. Right on Northwood under Mopac, to name change to Westover. Left on Bland, Left on Marganita Crescent, around curve and cross Tower Drive to Dormarion. Dormarion down to Indian Trail. Left on Indian Trail over to Sharon. Sharon down to corner with Bridle Path. Bridle Path to Exposition, down to LA Blvd, to Mopac, to bike path along north side of Cesar Chavez, back to HQ.

22 Miles: Your map is here. You will travel with your 20 miles as noted above, but will diverge on Shoal Creek after Anderson Lane. You will continue all the way to the 183 access road (or when your watch beeps 11 miles), and then retrace your steps back home.

24 Miles: Your map is here. For you maximalists, you will travel with your 22 mile friends as noted above, and then will diverge at Mopac on the way back. You will go southside trail to the First St. bridge, crossing back over to northside trail and HQ.

RACE SPECIFIC WORKOUTS

HERE ARE SUGGESTED LONG RUN WORKOUTS FOR RACES THAT ARE IN THE FUTURE. IF YOU AREN’T RACING ANY TIME SOON, KEEP YOUR FITNESS BY ALTERNATING A LONGER LONG RUN AND A RECOVERY LONG RUN ON SUCCESSIVE WEEKENDS, DEPENDING ON YOUR CURRENT TRAINING LEVELS. (Ex: Alternate a 10-12 mile run with an 8-10 mile run).

·      March 17th, 2024 (LA): Run smart, run with joy!

·      April 6-7th, 2024 (Mt. Charleston, Paris): Taper madness begins. 14-18 miles, with last 8-10 at honest MGP. Check with Coach for your MGP if you do not already have it in mind. Start easy, and then cruise home with MGP for last 8-10 miles.

·      April 15th, 2024 (Boston): 20-24 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 24 mile max.

·      April 21st, 2024 (London): 12-14 mile recovery long run. Back off from last week.

·      April 28th, 2024 (Eugene, Big Sur): 18-20 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 20 mile max.

·      June 22nd (Grandma’s): 10-14 miles. Add 1-2 miles to your last longer long run, up to that 14 mile max.
