THE MAPS
For the duration of the Covid-19 emergency, we suggest one of the routes below for your Saturday long run. They are in various areas of town, and have variety to keep your runs interesting. You can start anywhere along the route that is convenient and modify the route to meet your distance.
[New Route] Street route out to Longhorn Dam
Your 10 mile map is here. Start from HQ (or your favorite starting spot along the route.) Head up to 3rd Street. 3rd over to and across Congress to Trinity. Right down Trinity to Cesar Chavez. Left on Cesar Chavez over to Red River. Right on Red River down to Driskill. Left on Driskill to Rainey Street. Right on Rainey down to roundabout. Exit roundabout to the left, which is River Street. River will change names to Holly Street as it goes under I-35. At park at end of Holly Street, wiggle left through park (or around park) up to Canterbury Street. Right on Canterbury over to Pleasant Valley. Right on Pleasant Valley to Lakeshore Blvd. Right on Lakeshore over to Riverside. Riverside all the way across town to Barton Springs Road. Veer left onto Barton Springs Road, and take Barton Springs Road to Zilker Park and Stratford. Right on Stratford to Mopac footbridge to Veterans. Veterans around and under Cesar Chavez. Finish back to HQ via bike path on north side of Cesar Chavez.
MOUNTAIN BONNELL AND SCENIC (NEW LOOP COURSE)
Your 12 mile map is here. Start at GZLs HQ. Head towards Mopac on the bike path on north side of Cesar Chavez, curl under Cesar Chavez at Austin High School, to Veterans and out to LA Blvd. LA Blvd out to Enfield (Mozart's). Continue Scenic to Cherry. Wind around to Rockmoor. Left on Rockmoor up to Stevenson. Left on Stevenson over to Scenic. Scenic down along river to hard right corner, which takes you back to Scenic. Left on Scenic at stop sign. Scenic around to Pecos. Left on Pecos up to 35th. Left on 35th over to Mt. Bonnell Road. Right on Mt. Bonnell Road up, up, up to parking lot and base of steps. Continue Mt. Bonnell Road past the steps to Mt. Bonnell Drive, which is the next right hand turn. Right on Mt. Bonnell Drive over to Balcones. Right on Balcones back down to 35th. Left on 35th over to Pecos. Right on Pecos and stay on Pecos all the way to Enfield. Left on Enfield over to Exposition. Right on Expo down to LA Blvd, back to Mopac, and northside trail back to HQ.
GREAT NORTHERN, SHOAL CREEK, HANCOCK, WOODROW, MORROW
6.5 Mile loop with add-ons for more: Your map is here: Parking at business lot at NW corner of Shoal Creek and Foster is a good place to start, or choose your own. Foster over to Great Northern, GN down to White Rock. White Rock over to Shoal Creek. Right on Shoal Creek down to Hancock. Left on Hancock, and then veer left onto North Loop at Fonda San Miguel. North Loop across Burnett to Woodrow. Left on Woodrow across Koenig up to Morrow. Left on Morrow over and across Burnett again. Name change to Northcross. Follow Northcross around to Foster, and take a left on Foster back to your starting point. That’s around 6.5 miles. If you then head out north (right) on Shoal Creek, across Anderson and up to the frontage road at 183, returning back to Foster, you’ll be at 9.5 miles. You can add any truncated portion of the Great Northern/Shoal Creek loop to build up to 12-13 miles.
UT/DUVAL OUT AND BACK (12 & 14 MILES)
12 Miles: Your map is here. Leave HQ to Seaholm, up to 3rd Street. Cross over on 3rd Street to Congress. Left up Congress to 11th Street. Right on 11th up to San Jacinto. Left on San Jacinto down to and across MLK into UT campus. San Jacinto to and through UT Campus. Cross Dean Keaton and veer right onto Duval. Duval up up to 51st St. Left on 51st over to UT Intramural Fields. Right on Guadalupe. Left onto North Loop. Cross Lamar, and roll down North Loop a few blocks to Grover. Turn around at Grover, and retrace your steps home.
14 Miles: Your map is here. Leave HQ to Seaholm, up to 3rd Street. Cross over on 3rd Street to Congress. Left up Congress to 11th Street. Right on 11th up to San Jacinto. Left on San Jacinto down to and across MLK into UT campus. San Jacinto to and through UT Campus. Cross Dean Keaton and veer right onto Duval. Duval up up to 51st St. Left on 51st over to UT Intramural Fields. Right on Guadalupe. Left onto North Loop. Cross Lamar, and roll down North Loop, across Burnett, and veer right onto Hancock at Fonda San Miguel. Right on Shoal Creek up a couple of streets to Shoalmont on your right. Turn around at Shoalmont, and retrace your steps home.
ANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL CITY LOOP
@14 Mile loop: Your map is here. Park at Anderson High School (Steck @ Mesa). Mesa south to Far West. Left on Far West to Balcones (access road at Mopac). Right on Balcones down to Hancock. Left on Hancock over to Shoal Creek. Right on Shoal Creek down to 45th. Left on 45th to Guadalupe. Left on Guadalupe, right alongside drugstore at that corner, up to 46th St. Right on 46th over to Avenue H. Left on Avenue H up to 51st St. Left on 51st over to Guadalupe. Right on Guadalupe up to 53rd. Left on 53rd across Lamar to name change to North Loop. Right on Woodrow up to Morrow. Left on Morrow across Burnett to name change to Northcross. Northcross around to Foster. Left on Foster to Shoal Creek. Right on Shoal Creek up to Steck. Left on Steck back to Anderson High School.Keep up your fitness by alternating a longer long run and a recovery long run on weekends, depending on your current training level. (Ex: Alternate a 10-12 mile run one week with an 8-10 mile run the following week).
